The name Enosh in the Bible means frail, mortal man. Have you ever felt like this? Do you ever feel frail or weak, like you could break at any second? Or mortal, where you can’t help but notice your own physical limitations and sicknesses? This is how I feel right now. Frail and mortal. It’s not a good feeling. I’d rather be happy and dancing, like David in 2 Samuel 6:14, but that just isn’t my condition right now. I am frail and mortal. I am Enosh.
Genesis 4:26 says “And to Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time men began to call upon the name of Jehovah.”

“The Hebrew word (for call upon the name of Jehovah) means to call out to, to cry unto, i.e., to cry out audibly. Because men realized that their life was vanity and that they were frail and mortal, they spontaneously began to call upon the name of Jehovah, the eternal One. Although they were vain and weak, by calling on the name of the Lord, they were made rich and strong, for they entered into the riches and strength of the One on whom they called.”
Isn’t that so good? I don’t have to be strong to live the Christian life! I can just call out to or call on the One who is strong and then enter into His strength!
In the New Testament Romans 10:12-13 confirm Genesis 4:26.
“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
One of the footnotes for verse 13 says “Calling on the name of the Lord is the secret not only to our salvation but also to our enjoyment of the Lord’s riches. Beginning with Enosh, the third generation of mankind, and continuing all the way down to the New Testament believers, God’s chosen and redeemed ones enjoyed Christ’s redemption and salvation and all His riches by means of this secret.”
Wow. Ever feel like you’re not enjoying God? You know He’s amazing, but you just can’t seem to experience all of His riches? GUILTY. Right here. Right now. But I can say “O LORD JESUS! Lord Jesus I love You! O Lord Jesus I need You!” That’s the secret to enjoying God! Those simple little phrases give us access to all of the riches of God! I don’t have the strength to pray long prayers. I don’t have the will power to read the Bible. I don’t have the desire to fellowship with other believers. But I can call. Even in our weak, frail, mortal condition God has provided a way for us to enjoy Him. Hallelujah! He really is so sweet.
